Strategy and Cooperation: Academic Delegation and Embassy of Portugal Strengthen Partnerships at UAM

The afternoon of September 28 was marked by a high-level protocol ceremony in Mexico City, opening doors to new mobility and research agreements between Portuguese institutions and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.

On the afternoon of September 28, the Study & Research in Portugal delegation, comprising 18 national institutions, continued its agenda with an official visit to the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). The meeting was attended by the Embassy of Portugal in Mexico, represented by the Cultural Attaché, Luisa Fernándes, who formally introduced the Portuguese delegation and Denise Castilho de Matos, Director of the Internationalization Department at the Instituto para o Ensino Superior

The reception took place at the Rectoría General, led by senior UAM officials, including Dr. Luis Enrique Gómez Quiroz and Dra. Yissel Arce Padrón, followed by a formal session in the prestigious Auditorio “Arq. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez”. The high-level protocol ceremony featured an institutional message delivered by Dra. Esthela Irene Sotelo Nuñez, Secretary-General of UAM. The host institution was strongly represented by the leaders of its units, namely:

• Dra. Edith Ponce Alquicira – Rector, Unidad Iztapalapa
• Dra. Alma Patricia de León Calderón – Rector, Unidad Lerma
• Mtro. Abelardo Mariña Flores – Strategic Liaison Coordinator, Unidad Azcapotzalco
• Dra. Gabriela Anaya Saavedra – Secretary, Unidad Xochimilco (representing the Rector, Dra. María Angélica Buendía Espinosa)

The working agenda aimed to deepen bilateral relations through strategic presentations on Mobility, Academic Co-responsibilities, and Research and Innovation at UAM, culminating in a dedicated space for inter-institutional discussion and the formalization of agreements.

Following the exchange of gifts and the official photograph by the iconic “Puerta del Tiempo”, the day concluded with a fruitful networking and coffee session. This informal moment provided the ideal environment for representatives of Portuguese universities and polytechnic institutes to exchange ideas directly with their counterparts, initiating promising conversations for future partnerships with the various faculties of UAM.
