The Cookie Policy or Connection Testimonials Policy governs the processing of data, including personal data, of users (“User” or “Users”), collected in connection with the use of websites or applications through Cookies, by the Institute for Higher Education, as the entity responsible for processing, hereinafter referred to as “Erasmus+ Agency”.

This Cookie Policy informs you of the types of cookies used by IES, IP on its website accessible via the hyperlink https://www.iesuperior.pt, excluding other websites that may have specific Cookie Policies.

You can choose which types of cookies can be downloaded to your internet access device (computer, mobile phone, tablet, etc.) through the privacy settings in the options of the internet browser you use (hereinafter referred to as “browser”).

4. Concept of Cookies

Cookies, known in Portuguese as “Testemunhos de Conexão” (Connection Testimonials), are small information files placed by websites that the User visits and stored in the browser of the device used to access the internet (for example, a computer or mobile phone). These files help websites remember information about the visit and facilitate the next visit, maintaining the actions and preferences of Users for a certain period of time, maintaining or recognizing the User’s name, the language in which they wish to browse the sites or other settings, as well as personalizing the User’s experience through specific content or even allowing the collection of information about the use of websites.

Cookies can be classified according to three main categories, depending on:

• its purpose;
• the placing entity and
• the lifespan or conservation period.

6. Categorization of Cookies according to Purpose

Necessary cookies – They have a functional character and are necessary to ensure the operation of the site and/or to ensure the availability of functionalities requested by the User, as well as to save their preferences regarding navigation on the site, whenever they use the same device and request it.

Analytical cookies – These are supplementary in nature and collect statistical information for the purpose of analyzing their use and managing the relationship with visitors, measuring interactions with the displayed advertisements.

Personalization cookies – These are ancillary in nature, not necessary for the website’s operation, and by improving its performance, they allow for customization of the user’s browsing experience.

Advertising cookies – These are ancillary features, aimed at making advertising more attractive to users and advertisers by selecting advertising based on the User’s choices, in order to improve campaign performance reports and enhance the presentation of ads that the User has already seen or marked as relevant.

Considering the entity responsible for placing the cookies, they are classified as follows:

Our own cookies – Cookies that are sent to the User’s device through equipment or domains managed by IES, IP, and from which the service requested by the User is provided.

Third-party cookies – are sent to the User’s device from equipment or a domain managed by a third-party entity over which IES, IP has no control, in which case the third-party entity may process the collected data without IES, IP having the ability to configure its operation.

Considering the lifespan of cookies, they are classified as follows:

Session cookies – Temporary cookies that are typically deleted when the user leaves the website that generated them.

‘Resilient’ cookies – These are cookies that remain on the User’s device until a specific date, at the browser level, and are used whenever the User visits the site again.

Websites cannot function without strictly necessary functional cookies, therefore the User is obliged to accept their use. As for other types of cookies, the User is free to consent to their use.

All changes will be immediately disclosed through the organization’s Communication Channels, and Users can access the information and, depending on the specific type of cookie involved, consent, in an informed manner, to its use, or, if applicable, withdraw previously granted consent, through the settings of their browsers.

Users can file a complaint either by registering it in the Complaints Book or by submitting a complaint to the supervisory authorities – in the latter case, they can submit a petition or complaint directly to the national Supervisory Authority using the contact details available at www.cnpd.pt.
