Portugal is an active participant in the Erasmus+ Programme, the European Union’s flagship initiative supporting education, training, youth and sport. The programme offers a wide range of opportunities for international students, whether you are coming to Portugal or are already studying here.
This type of mobility requires an interinstitutional agreement between your home higher education institution and a Portuguese higher education institution.
Mobility periods typically last between 2 and 12 months, for study or internship, and are available at all study levels.
To find out whether your university has an agreement with a Portuguese institution, you should contact the International Relations Office of your home university, which is responsible for managing Erasmus+ applications and selections.
If you choose Portugal as your destination for a full degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD), you can also benefit from Erasmus+ opportunities during your studies.
As a student enrolled in a Portuguese higher education institution, you will have access to study mobility in another European country, traineeships (internships) abroad, and mobility opportunities both within and beyond Europe, depending on your institution’s partnerships.
These opportunities are open to all eligible students, regardless of nationality, under the same conditions as Portuguese students.
Spend 1 or 2 semesters in a university or polytechnic.
Earn credits (ECTS), experience a new academic system, and grow your international network.
Do a work placement at a company, research lab, NGO or startup.
Get hands-on experience while discovering a new professional and cultural environment.
Explore options like Blended Mobility, Youth Exchanges, or Staff Mobility under Erasmus+. More information available at your home institution or through the Erasmus+ National Agency in Portugal.
