Portugal and Argentina Strengthen Academic and Scientific Cooperation

On 16 April, the Ambassador of Portugal to Argentina, Gonçalo Teles Gomes, hosted a reception at his official residence in Buenos Aires, bringing together key stakeholders from the Portuguese and Argentine higher education sectors to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Academic and scientific collaboration was at the heart of the meeting, with the Portuguese delegation led by Cristina Perdigão, Vice-President of the Institute for Higher Education (IES). The Argentine delegation included Alejandro Álvarez, Undersecretary for University Policies, and Franco Bartolacci, President of the National Interuniversity Council.

The event brought together representatives from 17 Portuguese and 12 Argentine higher education institutions to discuss key topics, including academic mobility, research collaboration, funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships.

The Ambassador also welcomed Portuguese students currently undertaking mobility periods in Argentina through the Erasmus+ Programme and other academic exchange initiatives, recognising the important role of international mobility in strengthening people-to-people and institutional links.

The meeting was organised within the framework of the Study & Research in Portugal initiative, reinforcing Portugal’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and strengthening its position as an active partner in the Ibero-Atlantic higher education and research landscape.
