Visit to University Nacional Autónoma of Méxixo

Academic Diplomacy and Institutional Cooperation Strengthen Ties Between Portugal and Mexico

As part of its official mission to Mexico, the Study & Research in Portugal delegation visited the prestigious Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for a high-level working session aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation, academic mobility, and joint research ventures.

The session commenced with official welcome remarks and an institutional presentation delivered by William Lee Alardín, Head of International Relations at UNAM. Following the opening, Denise Castilho de Matos and Margarida Rodrigues, representing the Internationalization Department of the Instituto do Ensino Superior, I.P., presented the national initiative, highlighting the strong foundation and future potential of academic relations between Portugal and Mexico.

Following the opening remarks, representatives from Portuguese universities and polytechnic universities met directly with heads of UNAM’s various academic faculties. These targeted discussions focused on expanding student and faculty mobility, exploring joint research programs, and establishing new bilateral agreements.

To conclude the day, the delegation enjoyed a guided tour of UNAM’s iconic central campus, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its architectural, artistic, and historical significance.

This visit represents another major milestone in consolidating the presence of Portuguese higher education in Latin America and deepening international academic partnerships between Portugal and Mexico.
