Study & Research in Portugal Brings Portuguese Higher Education Opportunities to Students Across Brazil

The Study & Research in Portugal initiative participated in Salão do Estudante 2026, one of Brazil’s leading international education fairs, reaffirming Portugal as a preferred destination for Brazilian students seeking high-quality higher education, research opportunities and international mobility.

Over the course of eight fairs held between 20 March and 1 April, the Portuguese delegation visited São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Salvador, Maceió and Recife, engaging directly with thousands of prospective students and families.

Representing 27 Portuguese higher education institutions, the delegation showcased Portugal’s diverse academic offer, internationally recognised degrees, a vibrant research ecosystem and international mobility opportunities through the Erasmus+ Programme, while providing practical guidance on admissions, visas, residence procedures and student life in Portugal.

The mission also included a Portugal–Brazil Academic Relations Forum, held at the Consulate General of Portugal in São Paulo. Bringing together representatives from Portuguese and Brazilian higher education institutions, the event provided a platform to discuss key topics shaping academic cooperation between the two countries, including internationalisation strategies, transnational education, research collaboration and student mobility.

This mission further reinforced Portugal’s role as a gateway to Europe for students from outside the European Union. By combining academic excellence, an increasingly international higher education system and strong institutional links with Brazil, Portugal offers an attractive environment for study, research and international collaboration.

The mission was coordinated by the IES – Institute for Higher Education, with the support of the Portuguese diplomatic representations in Brazil, contributing to the strengthening of academic and scientific ties between Portugal and Brazil.
