Ensino Superior português na EAIE 2026, em Glasgow: Cooperação, Internacionalização e o Rumo a Lisboa 2027
O Study & Research in Portugal, coordenado pelo Instituto para o Ensino Superior, I. P., voltou a marcar presença de destaque na Conferência e Exposição EAIE 2026 – European Association for International Education, que decorreu de 8 a 11 de setembro em Glasgow, Escócia.
A 36.ª Conferência e Exposição Anual reuniu mais de 7300 profissionais e instituições de ensino superior de todo o mundo num dos principais encontros dedicados à internacionalização do ensino superior, contando com a participação ativa de 33 Instituições de Ensino Superior portuguesas e da FLAD – Fundação Luso Americana para o Desenvolvimento.
A edição de 2026 decorreu sob o tema “The Rhythm of Revolution”, promovendo a reflexão sobre o papel do ensino superior na resposta aos desafios globais e na construção de mudanças positivas através da colaboração internacional. Ao longo dos quatro dias de evento, o pavilhão português foi um ponto nevrálgico para reuniões estratégicas com universidades, organizações e parceiros internacionais, consolidando a visibilidade do ensino superior português no contexto global.
Dinamismo institucional, protocolos e parcerias estratégicas.
O evento foi marcado por uma intensa atividade de networking, traduzindo-se na realização de múltiplos contactos institucionais e na celebração de protocolos de cooperação estratégica entre instituições de ensino superior nacionais e estrangeiras. Entre os acordos firmados, destacam-se os protocolos assinados pela Universidade Politécnica de Viseu, pela Universidade Politécnica de Portalegre, pela Escola Superior de Enfermagem da Universidade de Lisboa e pela Universidade Atlântica.
Adicionalmente, o consórcio integrado pelas Universidades Politécnicas de Coimbra, Santarém, Portalegre, Tomar, Viseu, Castelo Branco e a Universidade de Leiria e Oeste esteve em evidência através da apresentação de posters científicos e institucionais, demonstrando a capacidade de inovação e investigação colaborativa da rede politécnica portuguesa.
Receção de alto nível e promoção da EAIE Lisboa 2027
Destaque ainda para a realização de uma recepção conjunta de grande relevo no centro de Glasgow, promovida em parceria com o British Council, SEPIE, DAAD e NUFFIC, que reuniu mais de 450 participantes.
No âmbito da preparação da próxima edição, realizou-se também um encontro estratégico de networking com representantes de entidades responsáveis pelas representações nacionais “Study in” de diversos países, com o objetivo específico de promover a participação alargada na EAIE Lisboa 2027.
Intervenção institucional e o futuro em Portugal
A participação portuguesa contou com a intervenção de Cristina Perdigão, Vice-presidente do IES, que realçou o papel e a importância fulcral da internacionalização no setor do ensino superior. Na sua intervenção, partilhou a experiência de Portugal e destacou as atividades conjuntas desenvolvidas na promoção do que melhor se faz na Europa.
A iniciativa Study & Research in Portugal reafirma, assim, o seu papel central na estratégia nacional de internacionalização, consolidando a atratividade de Portugal como um destino de excelência para estudar, investigar e inovar.
A EAIE terminou com a passagem de testemunho para Lisboa, na sessão de encerramento, que contou com a intervenção de Cristina Perdigão e a atuação da Tuna Feminina Orfeão do Porto.

Portuguese Higher Education at EAIE 2026 in Glasgow: Cooperation, Internationalisation and the Road to Lisbon 2027
Study & Research in Portugal, coordinated by the Institute for Higher Education, I.P. (IES, I.P.), once again had a prominent presence at the EAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition – European Association for International Education, held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 8 to 11 September.
The 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition brought together more than 7,300 higher education professionals and institutions from around the world at one of the leading events dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education. The event featured the active participation of 33 Portuguese higher education institutions, alongside FLAD – the Luso-American Development Foundation.
The 2026 edition was held under the theme “The Rhythm of Revolution”, encouraging reflection on the role of higher education in addressing global challenges and driving positive change through international collaboration. Throughout the four-day event, the Portuguese pavilion served as a central hub for strategic meetings with universities, organisations and international partners, further strengthening the visibility of Portuguese higher education on the global stage.
Institutional Dynamism, Agreements and Strategic Partnerships
The event was marked by an intense programme of networking activities, resulting in numerous institutional contacts and the signing of strategic cooperation agreements between Portuguese and international higher education institutions. Among the agreements concluded were those signed by the Polytechnic University of Viseu, the Polytechnic University of Portalegre, the Lisbon School of Nursing of the University of Lisbon, and Atlântica University.
In addition, the consortium comprising the Polytechnic Universities of Coimbra, Santarém, Portalegre, Tomar, Viseu and Castelo Branco, together with the University of Leiria and Oeste, stood out through the presentation of scientific and institutional posters, showcasing the innovative capacity and collaborative research strengths of the Portuguese polytechnic network.
High-Level Reception and Promotion of EAIE Lisbon 2027
A particular highlight was the organisation of a high-profile joint reception in Glasgow city centre, promoted in partnership with the British Council, SEPIE, DAAD and NUFFIC, which brought together more than 450 participants.
As part of the preparations for the next edition, a strategic networking meeting was also held with representatives of national “Study in” organisations from various countries, with the specific aim of encouraging broad participation in EAIE Lisbon 2027.
Institutional Contribution and the Future in Portugal
The Portuguese delegation included a presentation by Cristina Perdigão, Vice-President of IES, who emphasised the vital role and importance of internationalisation within the higher education sector. During her address, she shared Portugal’s experience and highlighted the joint initiatives developed to promote excellence in European higher education.
The Study & Research in Portugal initiative therefore reaffirms its central role in Portugal’s national internationalisation strategy, strengthening the country’s attractiveness as a destination of excellence for study, research and innovation.
EAIE 2026 concluded with the ceremonial handover to Lisbon during the closing session, which featured remarks from Cristina Perdigão and a performance by the Tuna Feminina Orfeão do Porto.
